George Bernato
An accomplished psychotherapist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. George Bernato is a proponent of the teachings of Carl Jung and uses therapy as a space to share ideas and opinions. Dr. George Bernato strives to create a calm, welcoming environment where his patients feel comfortable about sharing their thoughts in the hope of gaining a more complete understanding of themselves. To accomplish this, Dr. George Bernato tailors his treatments to the specific needs of each patient, and he possesses experience with a variety of evidence-based therapy methods, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), dream work, active imagination, and sandplay. He also employs a variety of talk therapy treatments, including free association. Throughout his career, Dr. George Bernato has specialized in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), especially in regards to its effect on military servicemembers. As a veteran of the armed forces himself, Dr. George Bernato understands the delicacy and expertise needed to address the emotions associated with post-traumatic stress disorder, and he has used various talk therapy techniques as well as EMDR to successfully treat those suffering from PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. Dr. George Bernato also has experience treating social anxiety and depression, and he has assisted countless individuals suffering from sexual abuse and domestic violence. In addition, he specializes in the treatment of alcohol, sex, and drug addiction. Dr. George Bernato has practiced Jungian psychotherapy for more than 30 years and holds a variety of memberships and certifications. After obtaining a PhD in Counseling Psychology, Dr. George Bernato received postdoctoral training at the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis and the C.G. Jung Institutes of Minneapolis and Philadelphia. A licensed counselor in Pennsylvania, Dr. George Bernato maintains membership in American Psychological Association. Outside of his work as a therapist, Dr. George Bernato remains a dedicated philanthropist. He generously donates to organizations such as the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and Philemon Foundation. Dr. George Bernato earned his certification from the National Board for Certified Counselors and participates in the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis.
