Richard Gough

A former football player, Richard Gough spent most of his career playing for football teams throughout the United Kingdom in such leagues as the Scottish Premier Division, the English First Division, and the Scottish Premier League. As Central Defender and Captain for teams including Dundee United, the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, and the Rangers Football Club, Richard Gough won several championships while gaining honors for himself, such as Scottish Football Player of the Year in 1986 and 1989. Richard Gough then spent some time in the United States working with Major League Soccer's Kansas City Wizards and San Jose Clash. For a year, Richard Gough managed the Livingston Football Club, part of the Scottish Premier League, and saved the team from relegation. In 2007, the Scottish Football Hall of Fame inducted Richard Gough based on his accomplishments in the sport. Although retired as a player, Richard Gough keeps connected with the game. As a freelance defensive coach, Richard Gough guides football teams such as the Los Angeles Galaxy. Sports publications also seek the insights of Richard Gough. A freelance sports writer and broadcaster for a decade, Richard Gough produces pieces about football for newspapers in England, as well as for television and radio networks, such as Sky Sports, FOX Sports, and ESPN. Born in Sweden, raised in South Africa, and having spent most of his professional career in Scotland, today Richard Gough lives in Southern California. From his home in Encinitas, Richard Gough aids charity organizations devoted to children and animal interests and keeps physically active by running, swimming, golfing, and practicing yoga.
