Walnut Creek Community Church
Over the past 25 years, Walnut Creek Community Church has become an important part of the greater Des Moines, Iowa, community, spreading a positive message of faith, love, and hope to individuals of all ages. Based in the ministry of the Great Commission and the Great Commandment, the church fosters strong community bonds, thereby helping parishioners get closer to their faith. Promoting an all-encompassing love of God and the willingness to share His word with others, Walnut Creek Community Church plays a highly active role in the evangelical Christian world, with ministries in and around Des Moines and regular missions to Europe and Central America. As a testament to its growth, it now comprises churches in downtown Des Moines, West Des Moines, Johnston, and Windsor Heights, drawing more than 1,300 attendees to weekend services. Guest speakers have included Josh McDowell, Dr. Gary Chapman, Dr. Elmer Towns, and Sean McDowell.
At present, Walnut Creek Community Church offers a wide variety of formal and social ministries to serve the particular spiritual needs of children, teens, and adults. Among its services for children, the church operates the intensive Awana Bible study, Sunday school classes at each church location, and Upward Sports and Central City Soccer leagues. For teens and young adults, the church maintains high-school Bible study programs and campus fellowships at several area colleges. Noted for its adult-oriented ministries as well, the church runs several Bible study groups, the popular Mom’s Circle, and S.T.A.R.S., which strengthens bonds among senior citizens throughout the community.
