Author of the bestselling books Survival of the Sickest and How Sex Works, Dr. Sharon Moalem has appeared as an expert guest on the Today Show, Good Morning America, and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In his books, Dr. Moalem makes science accessible by presenting complex research findings in engaging and easy-to-understand terms. In addition to his full-length books, which have been translated into more than 17 languages, Dr. Moalem has published articles in a variety of popular magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times, O, The Oprah Magazine, and New Scientist.

A leading voice in contemporary medicine, Dr. Sharon Moalem received his Doctor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2010. Prior to obtaining his medical degree, Dr. Moalem completed a Ph.D. program in neurogenetics and evolutionary medicine at the University of Toronto. While at the University of Toronto, he discovered a new genetic association for familial Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Moalem’s research and published work includes explorations of the evolutionary benefits of hemochromatosis and diabetes and an investigation of the biological effects of illness in honeybees. During his undergraduate career, he attended the University of Guelph, from which he earned a B.S. in Biology and Art History.

At present, Dr. Sharon Moalem serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Research and Development for a biotechnology firm based in New York City. The company develops handheld diagnostic tools for genetic conditions and has successfully secured a patent for its genetic diagnostic technology. Furthermore, Dr. Moalem is the co-founder of a firm that develops new antimicrobial compounds, including those designed to defend against potential “superbug” infections such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a bacterium that has become resistant to many common antibiotics.
