Rufus Montgomery

As Managing Director of Government Affairs at Hall Booth Smith & Slover (HBSS) in Atlanta, veteran business executive and political insider Rufus Montgomery brings a rich degree of experience in the public and private sectors to his work. Noted by many as a key figure in Georgia GOP politics for the past decade, Mr. Montgomery most recently volunteered his time and energy on the presidential campaign trail in Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia. He supported the GOP nominee in the 2008 presidential election cycle as a delegate to the Republican National Convention and as a member of the Electoral College.

Noted for his work in higher education as well, Rufus Montgomery received a gubernatorial appointment to a full term on the Board of Trustees at Florida A&M University in 2011 and previously served as Interim Associate Vice President for External Affairs at Fort Valley State University and Interim Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Albany State University.

As a result of his outstanding record in business and politics, Mr. Montgomery has won numerous Georgia-based honors for his work, including Georgia Trend Magazine’s 2011 Top 40 Under 40, a 2010 Black Latino Council Power Player award, and a mention in James Magazine as a Rising Star in 2010 and 2011. A civic-minded figure in the greater Atlanta community and beyond, Rufus Montgomery is a member of the High Museum of Art and the Atlanta History Center, along with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he holds lifetime membership.

A multiple degree holder from Florida A&M University, Mr. Montgomery earned his Master of Applied Social Science and Bachelor of Science in 1996 and 1995, respectively. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Rufus Montgomery served in Operation Desert Storm, earning the Army Commendation Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal, among other decorations and awards.
