Philip Coburn
Throughout his life and career, versatile sales executive and medical device manufacturing leader Philip Coburn has maintained involvement in an array of educational, professional, charitable, and personal endeavors, attaining a high degree of achievement in each of his pursuits. Raised in Mississippi, Philip Coburn graduated with honors from Biloxi High School before enrolling at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC), where he continued to excel in his studies. Following receipt of his A.S. from MGCCC, he chose to matriculate at The University of Southern Mississippi in Southern Mississippi (USM), studying industrial engineering, among other topics. Maintaining a 3.8 grade point average, Coburn graduated with honors from USM in 1992, after which he began a fruitful career in medical sales at Organon International. Two years later, Coburn left Organon International to accept an employment opportunity from Synthes, making him the then-youngest Territory Sales Consultant in company history. From the beginning, Philip Coburn demonstrated his superior potential as a sales representative, earning Rookie of the Year in 1995, finishing as the company’s top-ranked consultant in 1996, and operating as one of the top 10 producers in each of his first three years with Synthes. In 1999, he was promoted to Regional Sales Manager of the Mississippi Valley Region, a post he held until his subsequent promotion to Vice President of Sales for the Central and Southeast Area one year later. From 2001 through 2009, Philip Coburn oversaw sales for as much as one-third of the entire U.S. region, marked by $250 million in revenues, the development of the Associate Sales Consultant Program, and the award for Area of the Year in 2006. Since then, he has served as Vice President of Customer Management for Synthes, in which capacity he oversees numerous value-added service groups, the Geriatric Fracture Program, U.S. government and military sales, and much more.
Over the years, Philip Coburn has volunteered his time, energy, and resources to a variety of charitable organizations in the community and beyond, including the Mississippi Kidney Foundation, Inc., and the St. James Catholic Church. When not working, Coburn enjoys all manner of recreational activities and goes fishing, camping, hunting, running, and cycling whenever possible. An avid reader as well, he counts John Grisham, Jon Krakauer, Dr. Ram Charan, and Jim Steffen among his favorite authors.
