Monir Elzalaki
Established in the 1930s as Butler County Mushroom Spawn, Sylvan Inc. now serves as the world's largest producer and distributor of mushroom spawn. Monir Elzalaki holds the title of President of its subsidiary, Sylvan America, Inc. He oversees daily operations for the company, including production, research and development, and bio-products, a division that provides agricultural, medicinal, and nutracuetical industries with biologically based products. Monir Elzalaki began his career at Sylvan as Director of Sales and Marketing, before serving as Vice- President prior to his appointment as President.
Monir Elzalaki holds a great deal of prior experience in mushroom spawn production. He served a number of different agricultural companies, including The Pictsweet Company in Salem, Oregon; Oak Grove Mushrooms, Inc., in Salem, Oregon; and Dole Food Company in Soquel, California. He held the titles of Facility Manager and Production Manager at these facilities, and in each role, he supervised staff and oversaw crop production. At Oak Grove, Monir Elzalaki owned 20 percent of the company, and he directed staffs at farms in California, Utah, and Oregon. At Pictsweet, he led 400 employees and organized crop scheduling, quality control, logistics, and production planning.
Monir Elzalaki studied Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley prior to beginning his career. He currently resides in Carson City, Nevada, where in his spare time, he participates in rock climbing or using his pilot’s license to fly small planes. In addition, Monir Elzalaki enjoys reading, hiking, and listening to music from a wide variety of genres.
