Josette Montas
Josette Montas, M.D., shares a passion for healing. Dr. Montas spent much of her life in the world of medicine, and is now flourishing in the world of music, which heals the soul. Josette Montas has performed a series of successful private concerts in her own home. She advocates the “concert de salon” style, where small concerts are held for minimal crowds in private areas. She feels this is one of the the best ways to reach an audience; the intimate setting allows the music to reach listeners on a deeper level than at a giant concert hall. Josette Montas has released two albums. Her latest one features music from her own piano teacher and composers from her home country Haiti and others. Josette Montas's musical schedule includes a concert in New York where she will play works of Debussy, Beethoven, Ludovic Lamothe, a Haitian composer; she will also accompany a French-Haitian Soprano who will sing Mozart , Rossini, Bizet and many others. Josette Montas is close to her Haitian roots; she is a founding member of the Executive Committee of Haitian Friendship Night and has performed several benefit concerts to help out Haitian organizations.Dr. Montas was asked to hold two concerts in support of La Societe de Recherce et de Diffusion de la Musique Haitienne in Montreal. Josette Montas has also performed in Delray Beach and Boca Raton under the sponsorship of United Haitian-American Democratic Club of West Palm Beach, Florida and she has raised funds for The Montfort Institute for the Deaf and Deaf-blind Children of Haiti, which sponsored her recent concert in New York City. Josette Montas is also a member of the Piano Teachers Association and the Leschetizky Association, which promotes piano education and performance. Josette Montas studied medicine at the Faculte de Medecine, Universite d’Etat d’Haiti, earning her M.D. degree ; she left her home in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, for specialty training in New York City. Dr. Montas cultivated an impressive skill set in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology after training in New York and soon became a board certified pathologist. Dr.Montas then served for several years as a New York City Medical Examiner. Despite the rigor inherent within her profession, Dr. Montas never strayed far from music, attending classes at Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and Juilliard throughout her career. When Dr. Montas retired, she enrolled in Mannes College of Music, earning a Master’s of Music degree in piano Performance in 2005.
