Farhad Hakimzadeh
Iranian businessman and philanthropist Farhad Hakimzadeh has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to preserving his country’s culture and heritage. As a prominent industrialist living in Iran from 1973 to 1981, he implemented numerous charitable and heritage conservation projects. One of Mr. Hakimzadeh’s projects involved restoring 17th- through 19th-century houses in the historical city of Yazd, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage Site. As the owner of multiple factories passed down from his father, Farhad Hakimzadeh funded American and European college educations for 87 factory employees’ children who showed academic promise.
In another act of charity, Farhad Hakimzadeh established a foundation to build and operate a dress-making factory surrounded by 300 homes. He donated the homes to widowed families with children; the mothers could then support their families by working in the factory. Even after leaving his native country in 1981 on the heels of the Iranian Revolution, Mr. Hakimzadeh contributed to the preservation of Persian culture and history by hosting cultural events and by establishing foundations and organizations in the United States and the United Kingdom.
In 1995, Farhad Hakimzadeh founded the Iran Heritage Foundation (IHF), a nonpolitical organization deeply committed to disseminating information and encouraging healthy discussion about Iranian history, language, and culture. Under the direction of Mr. Hakimzadeh, the IHF aided in bringing over 20 different culture and arts exhibitions to the U.K., including Images from the Endgame: Persia through a Russian Lens, 1901 -1914, a collaborative effort between four arts institutions.
Through the vehicle of the IHF, Farhad Hakimzadeh established seven research fellowships and funded numerous publications, conferences, and internships over a 13-year period. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. He received his early education in southern Germany.
