Ellen Breyer
Honored by the Legal Marketing Association, the Marketing Partner Forum, and The College of New Rochelle, executive Ellen Breyer also has received recognition from the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers and the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. A Principal of Minneapolis consulting firm Cumberland Partners Limited, she develops effective strategies for organizations in the health care sector to increase revenue and financial stability. Ellen Breyer chairs the Finance Committee of womenwinning, which supports pro-choice leadership, and sits on the Executive Committee of the Minnesota Women’s Economic Roundtable.
Prior to her current position, Ellen Breyer served as President and Chief Executive Officer of national substance-abuse treatment center Hazelden. In this role, she diversified the organization’s revenue stream, eliminated unprofitable services while expanding other offerings, and reversed Hazelden’s financial decline. While overseeing 1,200 employees in 5 states and a $126 million budget, Ellen Breyer also reconfigured the international training program to earn Hazelden accreditation to offer an addiction studies Master’s degree. For the last half of her term with the organization, Ellen Breyer acted as President of Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies.
Previously, Ellen Breyer worked as a Project Consultant to rewrite the business development section of the Credit with Education program for the international nonprofit organization Freedom from Hunger. She served as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for a real estate development and construction firm and became Director of Marketing for a top commercial law firm with more than 160 attorneys. In addition, Ellen Breyer started her own company, Ellen L. Breyer Consulting, sharing her marketing, business development, and organizational expertise with businesses and nonprofit entities.
Ellen Breyer began her career in the chocolate industry. As Director of Corporate Marketing for Godiva Chocolatier Inc., she worked in such areas as operations management, international sourcing, distribution, and product strategy, reporting to the President of Godiva Chocolatier in Belgium as well as to the U.S. Vice President of Sales and Marketing. At The Truffles Group, Ellen Breyer became President, overseeing operations and evaluating funding.
Completing undergraduate studies at The College of New Rochelle, Ellen Breyer obtained an M.B.A. at the New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business. She also studied at London and Harvard Business Schools.
