Carmel Cottrell
Carmel Cottrell has spent more than twenty years in the field of education, holding positions such as Teacher, Adjunct Professor, and Assistant Principal. She holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Change, augmenting her commitment to providing leadership in administrative roles in Illinois schools. In her most recent position, Carmel Cottrell completed two years of service as the President of the Schaumburg Education Association (SEA), acting in the interest of over 1,200 public education workers employed by Schaumburg Community Consolidated School District 54.
Having served on the SEA’s Executive Board since 2003, Carmel Cottrell was Vice President of the board for three years before entering a term as President in 2009. Prior to that, Carmel Cottrell served Region 35 of the Illinois Education Association (IEA) as Treasurer from 2006 to 2009.
During Carmel Cottrell’s time serving the SEA and IEA, she continued to work as an educator for School District 54, filling many positions, such as Learning Technology Facilitator and Accreditation Team Representative. Her administrative capabilities are enriched by her many years of classroom experience and leadership positions held at schools throughout the Chicago area.
Carmel Cottrell’s career in education began in School District 54, where she has been a Teacher from 1987 to present. She held many positions during this time, including Reading Improvement Instructional Assistant, as well as the Assistant Principal for Bloomingdale School District 13. Carmel Cottrell also served in the Assistant Principal’s office of James B. Conant High School in Township High School District 211 as a Doctoral Administrative Intern.
Additionally, Carmel Cottrell has been an Adjunct Professor at the College of Education at Roosevelt University’s Chicago and Schaumburg campuses. She earned her Masters of Elementary Education at National Louis University and received her Doctorate of Education degree from Roosevelt University.
Amid her other accomplishments, Carmel Cottrell holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Speech, and Secondary Education from Saint Leo University, as well as a Certificate in Educational Leadership and Supervision from National Louis University. At present, Carmel Cottrell works and lives in Schaumburg, Illinois.
