Pearl Eliadis

Pearl Eliadis is a human rights lawyer in Canada and Principal of her law firm. Pearl Eliadis has worked internationally to establish national human rights institutions, to develop safety and health standards for migrant workers and in drafting significant human rights legislation and judicial reforms. She devotes the Law Office of Pearl Eliadis in Montreal exclusively to human rights-related issues, including anti-discrimination, equality, refugee, and immigration law. Eliadis also teaches a course on civil liberties at the Faculty of Law at McGill University. In addition, she has worked in advisory capacities for the UN’s National Human Rights Commission and the Unity and Reconciliation Commission, in the aftermath of the genocide in Rwanda.

Admitted to the Quebec and Ontario Bars, Pearl Eliadis writes and lectures globally and has advised institutions and governments around the world, including on women’s rights and children’s rights. She is lead author of Equality for Women: A Handbook for National Human Rights Institutions on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, has also been a Contributing editor of the Charter and Human Rights Litigation journal since 1994.

Dedicated to public service, Pearl Eliadis has chaired the Task Force on Human Rights for the Renewal Commission of the Liberal Party of Canada and is past President of the Canadian Human Rights Foundation (now Equitas; International Centre for Human Rights Education) where she serves today on its Honorary Board of Directors.

Currently, Eliadis sits on the boards of Shield of Athena, The Equality Effect and the Advisory Board of Canadian Lawyers Abroad. Eliadis belongs to the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Montreal and in 2010, Pearl Eliadis was invited to the Human Rights Advisory Council of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Eliadis has earned numerous honours, including a Woman of Distinction award from the Women’s Y Foundation of Montreal and the Woman of the Year Award from the Montreal Council of Women.
