Michael Gardner Baytree Capital
Michael Gardner, Managing Member of Baytree Capital, is an ambitious investment banker with a love for theater. Gardner founded Baytree Capital in 1990 with the idea of serving high net worth individuals by investing in public and private equity. The merchant bank is focused primarily on micro and mid cap space and is known for its aggressive financial management. Baytree Capital is based in New York City and currently has five partners, including Michael Gardener, responsible for the firm's success.
Recently the firm received exclusive rights to represent Archduke Dominic Habsburg and his family in the long-term strategic plan, preservation, and improvement of Bran Castle, better known as Dracula's Castle, in Romania. Bran Castle, aside from its place in literature, has played a large part in history, serving as a fortress against invading Turks in the 14th century and having been inhabited by legendary monarchs. The Hapsburgs selected Michael Gardner of Baytree Capital to manage the future of this asset because of his sensitivity to the family and the property's history, as well as his reputation for successful banking and brokering transactions. The property is expected to sell for over $135 million, but will only be sold to someone who will maintain the museum and treat the historical building with the proper respect.
Outside of his professional duties at Baytree Capital, Michael Gardner invests a great deal of money and time on theater productions. He serves as Chairman on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and is largely credited with the turnaround of the academy. He has helped produce multiple Broadway shows, such as the 2003 Tony nominated show “A Year with Frog and Toad" and the London production of “And Then There Were None.”
