Kidz IDz

Teaching children about “stranger danger” and about staying safe remains the primary mission of Kidz-IDz. Presenting education that children will listen to and remember can be difficult, and every year, the number of missing and exploited children in America rises. Through Kidz-IDz, a group of Pennsylvania parents has developed tools designed to educate children of all ages about safety. Additionally, the organization offers instruments for parents to use proactively for the protection of their children. Kidz-IDz was founded in 2002 by Michael Pouls, who currently serves as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer. Kidz-IDz was established after Pouls, a father, realized that most parents are not prepared to deal with the sudden disappearance of a child. After meeting with agencies such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Pouls formulated the idea of Kidz-IDz. Kidz-IDz provides various options for parents to use to ensure the safety of their children. The three primary products provided by Kidz-IDz include Safetyville, a board game that teaches children such things as how to get help when lost and how to respond if someone comes to the door claiming to be a police officer. In Safetyville, a lost child is encouraged to seek help from an adult with a child as one option. They are urged to dial 911 and verify with a dispatcher that an officer has in fact come to the door of their home. A hard-plastic child identification and medical emergency card makes up one of the most significant items provided through Kidz-IDz. The front of the card has the child’s photo, height, weight, and other identifying information. The back of the Kidz-IDz card contains medical emergency information, phone numbers, and a signature allowing a hospital to provide emergency care if the parents cannot be reached. The Kidz-IDz cards can be updated as the child grows and changes. An electronic ID constitutes the third product provided by Kidz-IDz. Modeled after an AMBER Alert missing child bulletin, this document can be stored on the parent’s computer. All the information a parent would need to provide if a child was missing would already be stored and available for immediate action. The Kidz-IDz concept saves critical time that could mean the difference in bringing a child home safely.
