Emeryville Dental Care

As a neuromuscular dentist, Dr. Rose Magno of the Emeryville Dental Care is one of only a small number of specialists in this field. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, as of 2008, there were approximately 140,000 practicing dentists in the United States. However, just five percent of these dentists are qualified to practice neuromuscular dentistry. Dr. Rose Magno received training in this field from the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.

When should a patient consult a neuromuscular dentist such as Dr. Rose Magno? Neuromuscular dentistry focuses on problems stemming from a misalignment of the jaw and malalignment of teeth. Known as TMD (for temporomandibular joint disorder), this condition may present a diverse set of symptoms, some of which are not usually connected with dental issues. Although the misalignment often affects how a patient’s teeth appear, traditional dentists may not be as well versed in other symptoms associated with TMD, including chronic headaches, neck aches, backaches, shoulder pain, or other recurrent pain.

Diagnosing TMD requires a dentist with Dr. Rose Magno’s specific training. In treating patients with TMD, Dr. Rose Magno will first administer a number of tests to measure the jaw’s placement and motion, as well as the optimal alignment of the jaw in its resting state. Next, the patient is fitted for a corrective orthotic device, which should be worn for at least 22/7 for a period of 3 to 6 months and removed only for cleaning and eating. Once the jaw is realigned properly, a second device finishes the correction.

In addition to providing neuromuscular dental treatment, the Emeryville Dental Center, under Dr. Rose Magno’s leadership, provides a full range of dental services, including of advanced cosmetic dentistry, geriatric dentistry, periodontal therpay, root canal therapy, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, and reconstructive treatments. Normal office hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every other Saturday, or by special appointments.
