Dudley Rutherford
As a third generation preacher, Dudley Rutherford belongs to a long tradition of service. His father and grandfather were preachers, as were many of his extended family members. He has been focused on his mission to preach from a young age. At nine years old, he answered an altar call and told his father he wanted to become a preacher also. Dudley Rutherford went on to attend Ozark Christian College and Hope International University, where he completed his Master’s degree. He also received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Saint Charles Seminary.
Dudley Rutherford has been published widely, both online and in print. He has authored five books: Romancing Royalty, Keeping a Smile on Your Faith, Proverbs in a Haystack, Unleashed, and God has an App for That! The latest, God has an App for That! provides practical spiritual solutions to many common problems. Dudley Rutherford also founded the website CallOnJesus.com, which extends his evangelical ministry to people around the world.
After seeing how many churches struggle or fail to include diversity in their membership, Dudley Rutherford started an initiative called Dream of Destiny. This ministry provides support and advice for pastors and their leadership teams, helping them to make people from all backgrounds feel welcome in their churches.
A sought-after public speaker, Dudley Rutherford was the 2011 President of the North American Christian Convention (NACC). He regularly gives his opinion in Los Angeles publications like the Los Angeles Daily News and Los Angeles Times, and his sermons are broadcast via television and radio each week. Dudley Rutherford’s listenership is an estimated 12,600 for his Sunday radio broadcast and approximately 2 million for his weekly appearance on cable television.
Currently the Pastor of Shepherd of the Hills Church, Dudley Rutherford originally came to California to act as Pastor of Hillcrest Christian Church in Granada Hills, Los Angeles. With his guidance, the church’s membership increased from 350 to 1,000 and outgrew its meeting place. In 1995, the Pastor of Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch invited Rutherford to take over his position and bring the community of Hillcrest Christian Church to the larger facility. After consulting his congregation, Rutherford accepted the proposal. Since then, he has continued to foster the growth of his community. The average attendance each week has now grown to 10,000 people, and Shepherd of the Hills Church offers 20 services each weekend at its main facility, 4 daughter churches, and 4 satellite campuses.
