Wholesale Supplies Plus
Based in Broadview Heights, Ohio, entrepreneur Debbie May offers extensive supplies for making a variety of soaps and candles. Ms. May began her professional career in nursing, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Services at Western Michigan University in 1986, and training at the Bronson School of Nursing in Kalamazoo for three years. Following her graduation, Debbie May served as a registered nurse in the Midwest for several years. In 1996, Debbie May’s daughter, who was later diagnosed with autism, was born. Attempting to earn additional income, Ms. May started to learn the art of soap making. Eventually, she developed a home-based soap-making business called May Showers, which expanded nationwide with sales at home parties, and in craft and other retail stores. In 1998, Debbie May met a woman who asked her for help learning to make her own soap to sell. Ms. May taught her privately, but soon realized that many families found themselves in situations similar to hers. Seeing an opportunity to help those in need, she acquired a used home computer to teach online classes in soap making at night. By 1999, she saw a demand from her students for the same materials used by major soap and candle manufacturers. As a result, she developed Wholesale Supplies Plus, an online supplier of soap making products, including oils and gels. She soon expanded the product line to include ingredients for creating candles and cosmetics. Debbie May and her husband Dave run Wholesale Supplies Plus as a privately held corporation. They are the sole shareholders and manage the day-to-day operations. Supervising over 35 employees, Ms. May takes a hands-on approach to the business in order to ensure its success, and the satisfaction of every customer. Wholesale Supplies Plus serves over 100,000 consumers and home businesses with a stock of more than 2,000 packaged and ready-to-ship products, from soap bases to cosmetic scents.
