Vern Coyner

With more than 30 years of experience as an oil industry engineer, Vern Coyner has traveled the globe, gaining extensive experience in his field. After traveling to numerous foreign lands to design and supervise drilling on and offshore, he settled in Anchorage, Alaska, in 2002. For the last nine years, he has filled the role of contract Senior Drilling Engineer and Project Manager for ASRC Energy Services E&P Technology. Mr. Coyner embraced his community in Alaska, involving himself in volunteer work with a local food bank and Habitat for Humanity International.

In addition to spending his free time exploring Alaska and camping in the many beautiful locations across the state, Vern Coyner stays abreast of the latest information relevant to his area of expertise. He maintains professional membership with the Society of Petroleum Engineers, a nonprofit organization that collects and exchanges technical knowledge concerning oil and gas resources. Additionally, Mr. Coyner belongs to the American Association of Drilling Engineers, a group that provides a forum for the exchange of information specific to drilling engineers. He also holds membership in a trade association, the International Association of Dredging Companies.

After studying geological engineering at the University of Oklahoma, Vern Coyner gained experience through his involvement with more than nine overseas drilling operations. He rose to the top of his field during his tenure with Occidental Oil and Gas Corporation’s International Drilling Pool division. During this period, Mr. Coyner gained proficiency in working in hostile environments, including deserts, jungles, and rainforests. He draws on experience with mobile-desert and arctic rigs, as well as as others. He also completed a deep gas project for Saudi Aramco with wells from 12,000 to 15,000 feet deep. He was chief drilling engineer for a project in Siberia, where he negotiated contracts with Russian vendors. He wrote the drilling program for a project in Papua, New Guinea. Following a blowout in Bangladesh, Vern Coyner led the relief well-drilling team.
