Stephan Hittmann
A former Executive Director of the Office of Fire and Life Safety of the Fire Department of New York City, Stephan Hittmann and several colleagues launched the 911 FUND in response to the events of September 11, 2001. As New York City firefighters risked their lives to rescue victims of the World Trade Center attacks, Stephan Hittmann and colleagues began generating ideas on how to best prepare emergency response teams across the nation and the world to better serve and protect the public during catastrophic events.
As President of the 911 FUND, Stephan Hittmann oversees the foundation's acquisition of fire trucks, ambulances, and emergency-related supplies and equipment, and manages their distribution to first-responders on a global basis. Stephan Hittmann also provides and coordinates training for first responders throughout the world and trains firefighters and first responders worldwide in the safest and most effective techniques to use the equipment and apparatus being donated.
Though Stephan Hittmann was inspired to help establish the 911 FUND after witnessing terrorist attacks against the United States, the 911 FUND operates in the United States and on a global scale. Stephan Hittmann's efforts have delivered dozens of fire trucks and ambulances, millions of dollars of equipment, and has provided extensive specialized training in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, South Africa, and elsewhere.
