Ric Keller
Former Florida Congressman Ric Keller presently practices with the law firm Hill, Rugh, Keller & Main. Based in the firm’s Orlando, Florida, office, he brings an uncommon degree of experience due to his tenure as an elected official. Ric Keller’s practice areas include commercial litigation; liability resulting from products, premises, and theme parks; and strategic government relations.
Ric Keller spent eight years in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he sought to abolish wasteful government spending and enact education reform. In 2008, he proposed legislation to prevent individuals incarcerated for sex crimes from receiving federal education financial aid. After the bill was signed into law by then President George Bush, Ric Keller’s efforts were applauded by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, the advocacy arm of Citizens Against Government Waste, a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization.
Ric Keller performed in many committee roles in Congress, chairing the Higher Education subcommittee and serving on the Crime, Intellectual Property, and Commercial and Administrative Law subcommittees. Between 2007 and 2009, he also functioned as a ranking member of the Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Task Force. During this time, he authored legislation to prohibit baseless obesity-related lawsuits against the U.S. food industry. The bill, "Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act," was approved by his fellow Representatives and adopted by the legislatures of 23 states.
Early in his professional life, Ric Keller served as a litigator at the Orlando firm Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. From 1994 to 2000, as a Partner with Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A., he established a record of success in state and federal courtrooms.
Ric Keller holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Vanderbilt University Law School, in Nashville, Tennessee.
