Recently, venture capitalist Rakesh Sood served as a panelist in an event called Capitalizing on Corporate Venture Capital and Strategic Investor Relationships, which was sponsored by Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, LLP and took place in Palo Alto, California. The event, aimed at start-up companies and venture capital investors, was designed to provide advice on how to manage relationships with partners and strategic investors. Possessing a wealth of experience in the field, Rakesh Sood was the perfect choice for a panel member. Rakesh Sood attended college in New Delhi, at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where he graduated First Class with Distinction. Rakesh Sood then moved to New York to earn his Master’s degree, which he completed with a 4.0 GPA at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (now known as Stony Brook University). Subsequently, he pursued his MBA at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in finance and made the Dean’s List. After graduation, Rakesh held a number of positions in marketing, sales, and business development, and firmly launched his financial career as Senior Technology Analyst at Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management LLC in San Francisco, California. There, Rakesh Sood covered the communications and Internet sectors and took part in IPOs and secondary offerings of companies such as UUNET, Netscape Communications, and Check Point Software. After three years at this firm, Rakesh Sood joined Goldman Sachs as Vice President and Senior Research Analyst, where he also contributed to IPOs and secondary offerings for companies including included eBay Inc., ISS, priceline.com Incorporated, Inktomi Corporation, and Portal Software. While at Goldman Sachs, the Greenwich Surveys named Rakesh Sood a top analyst three years in a row; he also authored a well-respected business-to-business report called “B2B: 2B or not 2B?” Rakesh Sood next served as General Partner to two different companies, the Sprout Group in Menlo Park, and Reed Elsevier Ventures in Palo Alto. Today, Rakesh Sood acts as Senior Advisor to DOCOMO Capital, Inc., in Palo Alto, a mobile communication company that invests in and backs start-up companies that feature cutting-edge technologies and are ready to go to the next level.
