Michael Orlans

Co-Directors Michael Orlans, M.A., D.A.P.A. and Terry Levy, Ph.D., B.C.F.E., have spent more than three decades refining their patient-centered attachment disorder therapies at the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center. As the only facility in Colorado registered with the Association for the Treatment and Training in the Attachment of Children (ATTACh), Evergreen Psychotherapy Center is a leading care provider in its field.

Attachment disorders occur when healthy emotional connections fail to develop between a young child and parents or caregivers, often due to abuse and neglect. The majority of parents seeking treatment at Evergreen Psychotherapy Center are adoptive parents of children born into environments where poverty, addiction, mental illness, or violence may have been present in birth families.

According to the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center website, children with this disorder may show aggressive or violent tendencies, be alienated from parents and authority figures, have low self-esteem, exhibit anti-social behaviors, and be unable to develop or maintain friendships. Michael Orlans and Terry Levy engage in holistic, integrated, family-centered methods intended to move a patient from unhealthy to healthy behaviors, affirm positive beliefs, and improve relationships with parents and siblings.

The consequences of attachment disorders can survive well into adult life if not properly treated. For this reason, Michael Orlans and Terry Levy have developed programs at the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center for single adults and couples wherein one or both partners may have unresolved issues stemming from untreated attachment disorders. Because Michael Orlans and Terry Levy believe that attachment disorders pass between generations if not addressed, their efforts to treat adults may lessen the chance a patient’s child would develop a similar disorder.

The American Psychotherapy Association has designated both Michael Orlans and Terry Levy as Master Therapists. As cofounders of the Association for Treatment and Training in the Attachment of Children, Orlans and Levy are recent recipients of the association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, Michael Orlans and Terry Levy have coauthored two books on attachment disorders, including the best-selling Attachment, Trauma, and Healing.
