Matthew Knouff

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina School of Law, Matthew Knouff currently serves as General Counsel and eDiscovery Counsel for Complete Discovery Source, Inc., a global eDiscovery services and consulting firm. Complete Discovery Source ranks as a premier provider of managed document review services and litigation support technologies to law firms, government agencies, and corporate legal departments and was recently named a top three provider of eDiscovery services by The New York Law Journal. At Complete Discovery Source, Inc., Matthew Knouff works with dozens of top law firms and Fortune 500 companies throughout the country, helping legal teams comply with domestic discovery obligations as well as successfully handle cross-border document productions. In his capacity as eDiscovery Counsel, Matthew provides guidance to AM Law 100 firms on how to defensibly handle large-scale eDiscovery efforts while helping improve litigation preparedness for thier corporate clients. For one such law firm, Matthew helped to set up a discovery framework to manage the identification, preservation, collection, culling, processing, review and production of approximatley 1.5 terabytes of information spread across four countries. From the CDS headquarters in New York City, Matthew Knouff supports the Complete Discovery Source team by consulting and teaching on numerous eDiscovery topics including defensible preservation strategies, litigation hold protocols, meet and confer strategy, the legal implications of metadata, eDiscovery ethics, search and retrieval methodology, defensible deployment of document review technology, document review workflow, and navigating international legal frameworks and various civil law systems. Matthew also serves CDS internally as General Counsel, ensuring full legal compliance and successfully managing risk for the fast-growing technology consultancy. Outside the office, Matthew Knouff contributes to Carolina for Kibera, the New York Public Library, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and other charities. During his spare time, he enjoys playing classical guitar, studying Mandarin Chinese, and reading books by Chuck Palahniuk, Stephen King, and Malcolm Gladwell.
