Laura Byrne is dedicated to the fine art of harp playing, performing, and developing the talents of her students through her teaching. She has also volunteered her music for many years as a healing harpist for sick and dying patients in hospital and hospice settings. For Laura Byrne, it was a life-changing experience playing the harp for her dying mother, and having her mother awaken from a coma after hearing the harp music of her loving daughter. In honor of her mother, Laura Byrne has spent years helping others through difficult times by providing what she describes as “the healing power of harp music.” Many hospital and hospice patients and their families have benefited from the touching music of Laura Byrne. The University of North Carolina Hospital’s “Door to Door” program, aimed at healing through the arts and promoting a positive environment for the hospital community as a whole, has enlisted the services of Laura Byrne on a number of occasions. Additionally, Laura Byrne has played her “Healing Harp Music” for the Healing Arts Network at Duke (HAND). Duke HomeCare & Hospice and a “music-care” hospice program in Louisville, Kentucky, have recognized Laura Byrne for her contributions. Laura Byrne is a classically trained harpist who has played professionally for more than 25 years. She received her higher education at the Cleveland Institute of Music under the instruction of her principal teacher, Alice Chalifoux, a legendary harpist. Laura Byrne is currently the harp instructor at Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill while she continues her classical performance career. She is also a popular freelancer and performs at a variety of occasions, including corporate events, receptions, weddings, and religious events of any denomination.
