Dan Fegan
Prominent sports agent and Yale University-trained lawyer Dan Fegan works out of his office at a Los Angeles law firm. From his first client, fellow Yale alum Chris Dudley, to his current role as Basketball Director for Lagardère's sports entertainment division, Lagardère Unlimited, Mr. Fegan has displayed a lawyer's eye for detail and a competitive spirit that achieves the best results for his athlete clients. Today, Dan Fegan represents nearly $250 million in guaranteed contracts for over 20 National Basketball Association stars, including Dwight "Superman" Howard and rising star John Wall.
In addition to negotiating labor contracts between NBA teams and his clients, Dan Fegan understands his role as a sports agent includes more than labor contacts. He also functions as a career advisor, and guides young men toward lucrative endorsement deals, such as the $25 million deal brokered between Reebok International, Ltd. and John Wall before draft day. Mr. Fegan works with suddenly wealthy young men, and offers them sound financial advice, assists in navigating family and friend relationships, and sees to myriad other situations.
An innovator throughout his career, Dan Fegan was instrumental in the drafting of the NBAâs Collective Bargaining Agreement, notably the sign-and-trade provision and the one-year opt-out clause. Continuing to push the boundaries of sports representation, Mr. Fegan is spearheading the use of technology to market his clients to a fan base that increasingly relies on social media to gain a more intimate access to their sports idols.
Dan Fegan's position at Lagardère Unlimited and the multi-faceted role he plays in his clients' lives does not leave him much free time. However, when he finds spare time, Mr. Fegan enjoys the thrill of fly-fishing and challenges his personal limits by skiing. Competitive by nature, Mr. Fegan is an avid chess player and played college hockey as an undergrad at Connecticut College. Mr. Fegan maintains a primary residence in Beverly Hills, and keeps secondary homes in Aspen, Colorado, Miami, Florida, and New York City.
