As the first fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon to serve the community of East Hillsborough in Sun City Center, Florida, Dr. Craig Amshel offers a much-needed service for patients requiring colon and rectal surgery. A highly trained surgical specialist, Dr. Craig Amshel received his M.D. from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, completing his general surgery residency at Maricopa Integrated Health System’s Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The facility has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of America’s Best Hospitals for medical care, education, and research. Committed to becoming a sub-specialist in colon and rectal surgery, Dr. Craig Amshel completed additional fellowship training at the University of Miami before establishing his own clinic, Absolute Surgical Specialists, PLLC.

In his capacity at Absolute Surgical Specialists, Dr. Dr. Craig Amshel specializes in advanced colon and rectal surgery, general surgery, endoscopy, and advanced laparoscopic, or minimally invasive, surgery. Dr. Craig Amshel’s clients benefit from excellent on-site patient care and helpful educational resources accessed through the clinic’s website and blog.

After completing his initial medical training, Dr. Craig Amshel spent several years serving as a general surgeon during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dr. Craig Amshel continues to give back to the community through his volunteer work with the Boy Scouts of America and the American Cancer Society’s Reaching Out to Cancer Kids’ Camp, where he served as a Camp Physician. Dr. Craig Amshel also functions as a member of the The Southeastern Surgical Congress and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. When he is not spending time with his family, Dr. Craig Amshel likes to stay in shape by bicycling, running, and practicing karate.
