Andrew Playford has held a number of positions reflective of his far-ranging skills and interests which span accounting, finance and technology. An entrepreneur at heart, Andrew most recently made great strides to add a totally new dimension to the gift industry by developing a way to give people memorable, once-in-a-lifetime activities called “experiences”. Andrew Playford was the founder and CEO of the online gift card company Signature Days. To call Signature Days merely a gift card company, however, would not quite do it justice. As the first company of its kind, Signature Days gave people the chance to give the gift of experiences, instead of standard gift cards to be used for purchasing items at a retail store. Playford graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelors in Business Science.. While at Price Waterhouse in London Andrew qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Institute of Chartered Accountants for England & Wales. While at Price Waterhouse Andrew held several positions over a 5 year span. After Price Waterhouse Andrew joined Think New Ideas, a integrated marketing services firm company which went public in 1997 and made its name acquiring small web development firms. In 1999 Andrew helped co-found the innovative SmartRay Network, Inc., with business partners. SmartRay Network Inc. was a service company that provided a real time network agnostic and data delivery platform to vendors of real-time information feeds. It has since been acquired. Today, Andrew Playford is a member of the Chicago Chapter of the Entrepreneur Organization. On his hobby site at nelsonmandelaart.com, Andrew showcases pictures of artwork by the former President of South Africa and the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Nelson Mandela. In his spare time, he also enjoys rugby, and is an avid reader of biographies.
