As Director of Marine Aviation Weapons Systems Requirements for the United States Marine Corps, Robert Claypool performs a diverse range of functions essential to Marine Aviation. Robert Claypool continuously works on modernizing the Corps’ fleet of military aircraft and maximizing the effectiveness of its systems and weapons. For the past few years, he has also helped organize the Marine’s aviation budget in order to allocate resources in the best way. Having served as a commanding officer, Robert Claypool is above all concerned with the safety and security of United States Marine Corps personnel and aircraft. Claypool had an enviable record during his two-year tenure as the Commanding Officer of Marine Aircraft Group 13. His 2,000 personnel and 56 fighter aircraft suffered no losses, and Group 13 received the Marine Unit Citation for excellence in service. Likewise as Commanding Officer of Marine Attack Squadron 214, no losses of personnel or aircraft and the squadron was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation. During his career in Aviation, a variety of aviation-related publications seek out his views and commentary. AIR International magazine featured Claypool in a November 2010 interview, and he is mentioned in an article in The Yellow Sheet, a magazine published by the Marine Corps Aviation Association. Robert Claypool also furnished his insights of the Harrier Program to Lon Nordeen, author of the book Harrier II: Validating V/STOL, who thanked him for providing excellent, authentic information. Robert Claypool supports the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. This nonprofit charitable organization provides financial assistance, scholarships, and visiting nurse services to Naval Service members and their families. Although recognized and trusted as an authority on aircraft and technology, Robert Claypool has always made the safety and welfare of the hardworking personnel of the United States Marine Corps his first priority.
