Gary Ohlgart
Gary Ohlgart is a beef jerky and meat snacks expert with more than 20 years of industry experience. In his time in the field, he has managed all aspects of the business. Gary Ohlgart has marketed products, developed new processes, aided in creating new manufacturing plants and expanding production locations, and more. After receiving his education at Michigan State University’s School of Packaging, Gary Ohlgart began working for Mirab S.A. and Mirab USA. As one of the premier beef jerky producers worldwide, the company offered Ohlgart the opportunity to learn the ropes of the industry. He served with Mirab’s Argentinian facility, one of the first large beef jerky manufacturers in South America. Gary Ohlgart studied the markets in the United States, contacted potential U.S. buyers and distributors, and oversaw quality control and special packaging needs. Link Snacks, Inc., in Minong, Wisconsin, was Gary Ohlgart’s second employer in the field. He joined as part of the team developing beef jerky product packaging, but later became involved in larger projects such as designing and establishing a manufacturing plant in South Dakota. The plant Gary Ohlgart helped build became the largest manufacturer of beef jerky in the United States. His role led to a large amount of traveling as he took over the position of Director of International Sales. His meetings abroad resulted in the creation of new beef jerky manufacturing facilities in Brazil and New Zealand. After a stint with Pioneer Snacks, Inc. from 2001 to 2007, Gary Ohlgart joined Marfrig Alimentos S.A. He had previously worked with the company near the end of his time with Pioneer Snacks. Gary Ohlgart’s position with Marfrig involved the creation and implementation of new products and production methods for the company’s plant in Argentina. He also handled several Marfrig projects in the United States.
