Pam Omer
Saddle fitter Pam Omer, of Freedom Fittings, graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She returned to the University to enter a Master’s program in Journalism. Before building up to her current career as a saddle fitter, Omer worked as a freelance writer. She published a number of articles in local publications, including The Argus-Press, Lansing State Journal, and Michigan History magazine. Pam Omer also held a job as a Legislative Analyst for the Michigan Senate Democrat Office, specializing in health care issues. She researched and drafted bills, speeches, articles, and pamphlet literature for the Michigan Senate Democratic Caucus. Pam Omer accepted the job of Policy Director, specializing in transportation and health care issues, where she supervised nine legislative analysts. She was also responsible for the analysis of legislative bills as well as writing informational handouts, reports, and speeches. In 2005, Pam Omer quit her full-time job to pursue a radical career change and become a saddle fitter. She began her consulting practice, Freedom Fittings, which offers individualized assistance to horse owners in the adjustment and construction of saddles. Omer is dedicated to engineering saddles to accommodate the unique body types and measurements of individual horses. The inspiration for her career choice came from the saddle problems she once experienced with her own horse. When she did not find a saddle fitter who could alleviate her horse’s discomfort, she set out on a mission to become an expert in saddle fitting. Omer now works as a full-time saddle fitter and saddle consultant, inspired by her love of horses to provide the highest-quality saddle fittings possible. In her free time when she is not riding horses, Pam Omer enjoys hiking, backpacking, and canoeing and other hobbies such as gardening, walking on the beach, and reading. Her favorite authors include Robert Frost, Sharon Penman, and Jodi Picoult.
