Mark Lobanoff
Dr. Mark Lobanoff began his college career at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science cum laude in 1992. While at Duke University, Dr. Lobanoff was on the dean’s list with distinction for two academic years. In 1993, he received a National Institutes of Health Medical Student Research Grant. Afterward, he took on a research fellowship with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the National Eye Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Mark Lobanoff spent a year doing research under Igal Gery, Ph.D., and Scott Whitcup, M.D.
In 1997, Dr. Mark Lobanoff received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. After completing a yearlong internship in internal medicine at the University of California, Irvine, he trained at the Emory University School of Medicine for three years as an ophthalmology resident. At Emory, Dr. Mark Lobanoff studied surgical techniques, as well as post-operative care. He continued on to a one-year fellowship at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he learned LASIK and corneal surgery procedures.
Starting as an undergraduate student, Dr. Mark Lobanoff completed a variety of scientific research projects. He began at Duke University, investigating anatomical changes in neurons. Dr. Lobanoff moved on to additional studies, such as the examination of nerve regeneration and, most recently, a clinical research trial on the effects of asthma medication on cataract formation. His work has appeared in the Journal of Immunology, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, and other research publications.
Dr. Mark Lobanoff maintains several clinical affiliations. He is the Medical Director of North Suburban LASIK Center and North Metro Surgery Center. He also lectures on LASIK and the treatment of corneal disorders at industry meetings, schools, and medical centers.
