Sound Dermatology and Skin Surgery, PLLC owner James Petrin, MD, made a name for himself in the field of dermatology through rigorous training and education and a strong dedication to patient care. Holding an MD from the University of Washington School of Medicine, Dr. Petrin earned designation as the William Baker Meritorious Service Award recipient during his residency with the university medical center’s Division of Dermatology, where he served from 1995 to 1998. During this time, James Petrin, MD, published three articles related to his research in the program: “Anticoagulants and Anti-platelet Drugs: To Stop or Not to Stop?,” Journal of Geriatric Dermatology (1996); “Non-Restorative Sleep, and Fatigue in Patients Infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus,” Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain (1997); and “A New Variant of Trichothiodystrophy with Recurrent Infections, Failure to Thrive, and Death,” Pediatric Dermatology (1998).

A member of the American Society for Mohs Surgery (ASMS), James Petrin, MD, has achieved the titles of fellow of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology (ABD), and he also holds ABD certification in dermatology. Furthermore, Dr. Petrin has served as the Secretary Treasurer of the Washington State Dermatology Association (WSDA), a position he held from 2000 to 2006.

In addition to his service with these respected industry organizations, James Petrin, MD, also devotes his time to volunteer work with several entities. A volunteer instructor on the clinical faculty at the University of Washington Medical Center, Dr. Petrin also participates in the American Academy of Dermatology’s free annual skin cancer screenings.

James Petrin, MD, enjoys outdoor sports, including skiing and bicycling. He helps to support The Bear Creek School, Woodinville High School, and Young Life, a non-denominational Christian ministry that fosters leadership and friendship in teenagers and children through adult mentorship programs.
