Dr. Patricia De Sear PhD.
A licensed psychologist with a private practice in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Dr. Patricia De Sear provides expert consultation and psychotherapy services to adults, adolescents, and seniors. For more than a decade, Dr. De Sear has assisted individuals with chronic pain or illness, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), psychological trauma, depression, and anxiety. Additionally, Dr. Patricia De Sear works using a relational perspective which places primary significance on the individual's personal relationships in the formation of personality.
Early in her career, Dr. Patricia De Sear served as a clinical nurse specialist and clinical instructor in intensive care nursing, an experience that informed her understanding of the connection between the body and the mind. In 1986, she returned to school to pursue her Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology at the Columbia University Teachers College in New York. After completing the program in 1988, Dr. De Sear went on to earn a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Fulfilling the internship and externship requirements at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Elizabeth General Medical Center, she successfully defended her dissertation, “Maternal Modulation of Shame: Its Relationship to Maternal Sensitivity and Toddler Attachment.” After receiving her PhD in 1995, Dr. De Sear continued her studies through the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, earning a Certificate in Psychoanalysis in 2007.
Dr. Patricia De Sear is actively involved in a number of organizations in her field, including the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, American Psychological Association, New Jersey Psychological Association, and the Bergen County Psychological Association.
