Dr. George Fielding

A world-renowned bariatric surgeon, Dr. George Fielding earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Queensland in Australia and completed an internship, residency, and registrar training at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. After serving as a Staff Surgeon at the latter facility for one year, he fulfilled fellowship training at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in Scotland and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in England. At The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, the University of Bern in Switzerland, and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, George Fielding, M.D., acted as a Visiting Surgeon. Since 1991, George Fielding, M.D., has also served as a Visiting Surgeon at the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane. For seven years, he has held the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at NYU School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. George Fielding travels all over the world teaching workshops in laparoscopic surgery and presents Lap-Band workshops and Lap-Band proctoring throughout the nation. In 1995, he established the Wesley Obesity Clinic in Brisbane and has completed thousands of weight-loss procedures over the course of his accomplished career. George Fielding, M.D., has contributed extensively to the published literature on bariatrics. He co-wrote articles addressing laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding and its effects on pregnancy, maternal weight, neonatal health, patients with type 2 diabetes, and morbidly obese adolescents. Dr. George Fielding co-authored articles that have appeared in professional journals such as as Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, Surgical Endoscopy, Annals of Surgery, and Patient Safety in Surgery. An invited presenter and contributor to numerous conferences and symposia, George Fielding, M.D., has lectured on topics such as laparoscopic approaches to splenectomy, anterior resection, cholecystectomy, colectomy, and inguinal hernia repair. He also has presented on general laparoscopy, bile-duct exploration, and malignant hilar strictures. Dr. George Fielding is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has performed more than 10,000 general laparoscopic procedures.
