Donald DeFeo, M.D. is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the former Chief of the Department of Surgery at Chapman General Hospital. Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. has a long association with the University of California, Irvine, where he received his medical degree. Following two years of service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. returned to UC Irvine Medical Center to complete his residency in neurosurgery. During this period, he also completed a residency in neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. became the Attending Neurosurgeon at UC Irvine Medical Center in 1975, combining his surgical duties with teaching, first as Assistant Professor, then as Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery. Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. was an early advocate of the less-invasive form of back surgery known as microdiscectomy. Performing nearly 200 microsurgical procedures per year at Chapman General Hospital, Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. helped make Chapman General Hospital a leading center for back treatment. In addition to his role in advancing surgical approaches to disc repair, Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. conducted research projects on hydrocephalus (water on the brain), cerebrospinal fluid and cerebral blood, and microvascular anastamosis in cerebral ischemia.

Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. has given advanced education clinics on the spine to the American College of Orthopedic Surgeons, the University of Southern California Department of Neurosurgery, Temple University School of Medicine, the University of Cincinnati, and Saint Mary’s Spine Center, among others. Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a member of numerous medical societies, including the North American Spine Society, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Western Neurosurgical Society, the California Medical Association, and the A.M.A.

Donald DeFeo, M.D., F.A.C.S. and his wife of 27 years, Lori, live in Orange County, California, where he continues to practice as a Neurologist.
