Originally from Sweden, the highly regarded gynecologist and obstetrician Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney completed her undergraduate studies at the Sigtuna Foundation (Sigtunastiftelsen) in 1983. Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney next enrolled at the Karolinska Institute (Karolinska Institutet) in Stockholm and received her Doctor of Medicine in 1990. Shortly after obtaining her degree, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney left her native Sweden to participate in a sub-internship in gynecologic oncology at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney received valuable research training and studied reproductive endocrinology as a sub-intern, and she remained at the prestigious university to conduct research as an embryologist until 1993. In 1993, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney commenced a yearlong internship in obstetrics and gynecology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and summarily completed her three-year residency at the same institution. Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney relocated to the West Coast in 1997 and began a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at the University of California, Irvine, simultaneously serving as a Manuscript Reviewer for the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. During her fellowship, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney attended multiple postgraduate courses, broadening her understanding of epidemiology and biostatistics, genetics, and nuchal translucency. In 2000, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney accepted a Staff Perinatologist position at San Francisco’s California Pacific Medical Center. Following one year with the prominent nonprofit academic medical center, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney took a Staff Perinatologist position with Kaiser Permanente. In 2002, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney left Northern California to act as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles. One year later, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney assumed the same role at the University of California, Irvine. In 2003, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney joined the Obstetrix Medical Group, where she applied her extensive education and experience as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist. At present, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney practices maternal-fetal medicine at the Obstetrix Medical Group office in San Jose, California. A dedicated medical professional, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney belongs to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists, the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and the Teratology Society. Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney enjoys reading, hiking, running, jet skiing, and snorkeling in her free time.
