Trudy Blakeman
Trudy Blakeman possesses a considerable degree of experience as a taxation specialist and financial analyst. Since 1997, she has served as the Director of Incentives, Property, and Sales Tax at Darden Restaurants, Inc., a company managing over 1,800 establishments across 49 states. Responsible for a full range of federal, state, and local non-income tax administration and planning strategies, Ms. Blakeman manages all compliance issues, conducts audits, and oversees tax expenses, including property appeals. Continually remaining updated on all federal and state laws regarding sales, liquor, and use taxes, she also develops a comprehensive array of tax plans designed to decrease risks, maximize revenue, and increase efficiency. To date, Trudy Blakeman has successfully executed a company-wide negotiated development incentive program, adding millions to company value.
Prior to her position with Darden Restaurants, Ms. Blakeman worked for Concord Management. As Controller, she coordinated and directed various financial policies, budgetary functions, and established both short-term and long-term business plans. In addition to handling all federal, state, and local tax reporting procedures, she also archived financial records, prepared reports, and oversaw all accounting operations. Previously, Trudy Blakeman served as a Senior Auditor for KPMG Peat Marwick. There, she performed tax computations and financial assessments for companies operating across a wide spectrum of industries. She was promoted twice during her three-year tenure at KPMG Peat Marwick.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville and a recipient of the Presidential Leadership Award there, Trudy Blakeman earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1991. A member of the Institute of Professionals in Taxation and the Restaurant Industry Sales Tax Professionals, Ms. Blakeman also holds a Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Central Florida. When not keeping a close eye on all federal and state tax regulations, she is also interested in reading, gardening, and music.
