Patrick Van Amburgh

From 2009 to 2011, Patrick Van Amburgh fulfilled responsibilities as an In-School Suspension Teacher in the community of Wallkill, New York. In this position, he handed out classroom assignments to students suspended for minor infractions. Van Amburgh also led classroom-performance discussion sessions, providing strategic advice for managing school workloads and enhancing academic performance.

This position built on Patrick Van Amburgh’s three years of experience as a high school guidance counselor, assisting juniors and seniors with the selection of classes that would position them for meeting overall college goals, as well as specific major and career goals. As a member of the high school crisis team, Patrick Van Amburgh also engaged in mediations between parents, faculty, and students whenever necessary. From January to June of 2009, Van Amburgh served as an ACT Coordinator and a Behavioral Counselor at a residential home for adults with psychological disorders.

Patrick Van Amburgh graduated from Springfield College in Massachusetts in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He participated in collegiate football for one season. In addition, he played intramural volleyball, basketball, softball, and flag football; refereed a number of events; and served for two years as an Intramural Supervisor. Van Amburgh went on to pursue graduate studies at Springfield College, earning a Master of Education in Psychology in 2005, at which time he also received licensure as a New York School Guidance Counselor.

For the past 13 years, Patrick Van Amburgh has served as a Camp Counselor with the Town of Mamakating Summer Camp. In that role, he has responsibility for the safety and well-being of campers, and he leads sports and recreational activities. In addition, Patrick Van Amburgh has worked as a daily activity planner and Head Talent Show Coordinator for the past five summers.
