Norman Reiss
Norman Reiss is a business professional and vocational trainer with over 25 years of experience. After earning his Doctorate from Oregon’s Pacific University, he established and operated an eyeglasses retail center while also serving in the field of adult education and health services. He developed and taught over 100 workshops and seminars on various topics, including low vision therapy and environmental vision. Students of Mr. Reiss’ classes and workshops included ophthalmologists from the greater Portland area, patients with diabetes at Valley Community Hospital, and doctoral students from the College of Optometry at Pacific University. As an educator, Norman Reiss strived to make technical and scientific information accessible to his various audiences, who frequently differed in age, educational background, and professional level. In addition to his service as an instructor, he assisted with the establishment of the Washington State School for the Blind Low Vision Clinic, which served as a model for other state-run schools.
Utilizing his skills in communication and organization, Norman Reiss has applied sensible business practices and financial management throughout his career as a retail business manager. During his tenure as General Manager at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Woodburn, Oregon, he methodically reduced debt and expenses, restoring the business to solvency. In addition to a variety of volunteer work with such organizations as his local library, Norman Reiss also served on the Board of Directors for Polk Adolescent Day Treatment Center, a mental health program for children and young adults.
