Martijn Bevelander
Martijn Bevelander hails from Haarlem (NH), Netherlands. He was educated in the Haarlem school system, attending Sancta Maria for Atheneum and briefly attending Eerste Christelijk Lyceum (ECL) for Havo. In 1998, at the age of 18, Martijn Bevelander left ECL permanently to focus on his two business ventures, Bevelander Internet Services and ChatPlaza. Bevelander founded the two Internet ventures on the cusp of the Internet boom at the age of 17. By the time he had turned 18, the demand for his products had increased so much Martijn Bevelander realized that in order to keep up with the demand he must avail himself to his businesses fulltime and quit school. By the height of the Internet revolution, Bevelander Internet Services was one of The Netherlands’ largest and most popular Internet service providers. Although the company closed in 2002, Martijn Bevelander continued to run ChatPlaza, and now, more than 11 years after it first went live, ChatPlaza remains The Netherlands’ most popular chat site. Today, ChatPlaza has grown to encompass blogging, dating/personals, and gaming, as well as videos, music, and picture hosting, which it offers through its partnership with Bevelander’s newest venture StayClose.NL Martijn Bevelander founded StayClose B.V. in 2005. The social networking site allows friends and family to keep in touch with each other by allowing users to join each other’s social networks and view viral videos, pictures, music, and news. In addition to founding ChatPlaza and StayClose, Martijn Bevelander has owned the popular Haarlem discotheque Club Delirium since 2003. When Bevelander purchased Club Delirium it was facing bankruptcy, but after infusing the club with much-needed cash, it quickly became one of Haarlem’s hottest nightspots.
