Jedediah Wakefield

Jedediah Wakefield is Chair of the Trademark Litigation Group of Fenwick & West LLP. He graduated cum laude from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he served on the Honors Moot Court Board and was admitted to the Order of Barristers. Additionally, he gained experience as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Judge James Ware in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Jedediah Wakefield’s practice emphasizes intellectual property litigation, with a special focus on right of publicity, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyright matters. He has successfully handled many trademark disputes.

In a case brought against Critical Path, Inc., Wakefield defeated all of the plaintiff’s claims through a winning summary judgment notice. Jedediah Wakefield represented Google in front of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, earning a summary judgment that refused the registration of Funtoogle. He also represented Harlequin Enterprises in a false advertising and trademark infringement claim against a film company. Jedediah Wakefield has also served as trial counsel for Chordiant Software, helping the company obtain a judgment that required them to pay five percent of the damages requested by the plaintiff. He also represented Sun Microsystems and Storage Technology Corporation in a copyright lawsuit. The defendants received a summary judgment in which the judge found their use of software to be licensed. In another case, Jedediah Wakefield represented Broderbund, successfully defending them against a claim that an educational video game infringed copyright. Jedediah Wakefield represents clients in both federal and state courts across the country. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the State Bar of California.
