James Pex possesses more than 30 years of experience as an expert in forensic science. An educator and prolific author, Pex has penned over 20 articles on forensic science and law enforcement-related issues over the course of his distinguished career. After graduating from Southern Oregon University with a Master of Science in Chemistry, James Pex pursued new professional challenges as an officer and then Lieutenant with the Oregon State Police, including the development of the federal grant-funded Domestic Violence Photography program, wherein he trained officers across the country on successful domestic violence enforcement. Pex interviewed and photographed over 500 victims of domestic violence throughout the five-year program, resulting in a positive-resolution rate of nearly 80%.
Today, Pex devotes himself to his duties as Chief Executive Officer of International Forensic Experts LLC (IFE) and serves in a leadership capacity with the Ocean Policy Advisory Council (OPAC) in his home state of Oregon. A marine policy advisory organization that reports directly to the Governor of Oregon, OPAC collaborates with the state's Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee to address several issues regarding coastal waters, from public safety to environmental maintenance.
James Pex has authored a number of articles and essays, including “A Look Inside Today’s Crime Lab,” published by PI Magazine in 2004; “Bullet Databases for Field Use,” an article that appeared in the third edition of the Wildlife Forensic Field Manual; “Domestic Violence Photography,” a discourse for Police and Security News; and “Application of Microvettes in Forensic Serology,” published in the SERI Newsletter.
Well regarded as an authority on forensics by his colleagues and clients alike, James Pex has been lauded for his work by local and national media sources. He appeared on Good Morning America after developing Parent Aid, an innovative and highly praised drug-testing program. A number of crime fiction writers have featured Pex in their books, most notably Ann Rule, the author of Small Sacrifices and The I-5 Killer, and Gary C. King, best known for his novel Web of Deceit.
James Pex resides in Oregon and enjoys taking full advantage of the state’s beautiful natural expanses by hiking, fishing, and boating in his free time.
