James Pastman
Both a finance professional and successful working musician, James Pastman lives and works in Chicago, Illinois. A notable member of the Chicago musical community since 1978, Pastman specializes in working as a keyboardist and pianist for various artists. He also works as a conductor, musical director, and composer. Key milestones in his career as a musician include releasing the album Rough Draft with his band Apprentice and working with Aretha Franklin, Cirque Du Soleil, Three Dog Night, The Platters, and Del Shannon. Pastman also scored the film The Last Time I Committed Suicide, a 1997 release starring Thomas Jane and Keanu Reeves and based around a brief period in the life of the Beat figurehead Neal Cassady. In addition to his film work, James Pastman has scored innumerous television commercials. Committed to maintaining professional ties in the local musical community, he belongs to the Chicago Musicians Union and the Ravinia Festival Orchestra. Deemed Chicago’s “sound of summer,” the Ravinia Festival is the oldest outdoor music festival in the country.
As a counterpart to his work in the music industry, James Pastman founded and currently manages Rhombus Capital Management, a small hedge fund. Pastman originally developed an interest in finance while studying economics as an undergraduate at The University of Chicago. He received his Bachelor’s in Economics and Public Policy Administration sigma cum laude from the same institution in 1993. James Pastman previously garnered recognition for his exemplary academic record while completing an Associate degree at the College of Lake County, where his performance in the social sciences earned him a Frederick Patterson Award.
James Pastman enjoys spending time in the outdoors kayaking, hiking, running, camping, mountain biking, and bird watching. He also supports The American National Red Cross and volunteers with his local Habitat for Humanity chapter.
