Edward Dovner
Eddie Dovner learned the value of hard work and persistence as a young boy, getting up rising early to help out on his parentâs farm and continuing his chores after school. Although at the time he would have preferred spending time with his friends, these experiences gave Eddie Dovner the perspective necessary to be successful as an entrepreneur.
Most of his experience in business was learned on the job. Following high school, Eddie Dovner enrolled in a community college, but quickly realized he would gain greater benefit from a hands-on perspective. He moved from Massachusetts to Florida, and working as a cabana boy at the Diplomat Hotel in Miami, Eddie Dovner met many inspiring businesspeople and successful entrepreneurs. The three years he spent in this position helped him solidify his career goals and develop a plan of approach.
Before establishing his first business, Eddie Dovner worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. as a Sales Agent. The leading rookie on his team, he won a wide range of awards and the respect of management. Through these experiences, Eddie Dovner gained the business and sales knowledge required to launch his own company.
Starting small, Eddie Dovner founded an honor snack business, delivering food to companies across the Miami area. Within a few years, the firm had grown to such success that he received offers from others to buy the business. Ed sold the first company and went on to launch several other successful enterprises.
Seeking a recession-proof model, Eddie Dovner conducted research on commodities, eventually settling on the gourmet coffee roasting industry. He founded Northeast Gourmet Coffee in the 1980s, among the first gourmet coffee roasting companies in the northeastern United States. By the time he sold the firm a few years later, Eddie Dovner had cultivated the business into a major coffee distributor, providing his product to consumers across New England.
Since then, Eddie Dovner has led a number of other successful ventures. Currently, he is developing a line of portable fitness equipment to be released in 2011.
