Dutch Lamons
Athlete, student, volunteer, artist, and musician are all words that describe Dutch Lamons of Corona del Mar, California. A star athlete in high school, he excelled in football, winning a myriad of awards and proudly wearing the number 33 in his positions of middle linebacker and fullback. Dutch Lamons also worked hard in school and won the Scholar Athlete Award in 2007 when he maintained a 3.8 GPA throughout football season. Artistic as well as scholarly, he took part in the film club, creating entries for the Newport Beach Film Festival. In addition, he likes to play the drums and listen to Irish music. Dutch Lamons’ list of charitable contributions is lengthy; he began aiding others in high school. He also helped build homes in Mexico with a church youth group through Casa de Baja and ran a Bible study for freshman boys. He assisted in the Special Olympics and supported the Rock 2 Roll benefit, which raised funds for Wheelchairs 4 Kids in Mexico. Additionally he helped out in the office of the Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center and worked on the Magic Shoe 5K Run/Walk fundraiser. At his high school, Dutch Lamons took part in the Best Buddies International program, where he mentored developmentally handicapped students. Today, he attends Texas Christian University (TCU), where he still takes the time to support others and volunteers at the KinderFrogs School, a program that provides education for toddlers and preschoolers with developmental challenges. Dutch Lamons also belongs to Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and participates in the fraternity’s charity, which is called Push America. He proudly helps further this organization, which strives to educate people on what others with disabilities can accomplish. Push America benefits individuals with disabilities by constructing accessible environments for those with mobility issues and staging events to raise money for various causes. Dutch Lamons still manages to carve out some time for himself amid his scholastic and charitable endeavors. When he can, Dutch Lamons enjoys wakeboarding, snowboarding, and playing water polo and football, as well as traveling, honing his graphic design skills, lifting weights, and practicing sign language. Clearly a well-rounded individual, Dutch Lamons was selected as a finalist for TCU’s Balanced Man Scholarship Award. He was also chosen as a Counselor for the school’s TCU Frog Camp, which serves as an orientation program for incoming freshmen.
