Debran Rowland
A writer who has earned acclaim for her approachable prose and meticulous research skills, Debran Rowland is the author of The Boundaries of Her Body: The Troubling History of Women’s Rights in America, a 789-page treatise that chronicles the history of women through the eyes of the American legal system from the days of the Mayflower Compact through the 20th century. For five years, Ms. Rowland painstakingly researched material for the book. Her efforts were applauded.. The Boundaries of Her Body is filled with legal and historical vignettes, statistics reflective of the times, and the findings and the actual language of many of the court cases that changed history for women. Ms. Rowland's writing is easy enough for casual reading and yet she presents this story of women to readers in a way that is intellectually challenging. Publishers Weekly called The Boundaries of Her Body a “masterful treatise” and referred to it as “the perfect book for the classroom, as well as the family room.” Debran Rowland is currently focusing her efforts on her next book, What Makes a Woman a Woman?: Coming to Terms with the New Definition of Sex.
