Christopher Pizzo

Christopher Pizzo is a graduate of New Jersey’s William Paterson University. Having earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design and Advertising in 1998, Chris Pizzo initially entertained thoughts of a military career. A participant in Cornell University’s ROTC program from 1992-1993, Chris Pizzo was only a Commissioned Officer for the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School for a couple of months before being diagnosed with atypical seminoma cancer. Although the cancer ended his military career aspirations, it did not crush Chris Pizzo’s spirit. Several years of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and surgeries took their toll on his body, but Chris Pizzo persevered and began training in several different branches of martial arts, eventually earning five black belts and many more honors and medals. Life threw another hurdle in his way when Chris Pizzo and his wife were fiercely attacked in a road rage incident that left him severely beaten. Astounded that his extensive training in martial arts did him little good in such an unpredictable situation, Chris Pizzo set out to find a self-defense style that would be effective in any situation. What Chris Pizzo discovered was Close Combat Training (CCT), a self-defense method that relies on several simple moves to debilitate a surprise attacker without weapons. Relying on his knowledge of CCT and keen business sense, Chris Pizzo founded Close Combat Company, LLC in August 2003. Chris Pizzo, as the President and Chief Instructor, oversees marketing, business strategies, and public relations, in addition to teaching the fundamentals of CCT to his many dedicated students. Chris Pizzo is a Board Member of the National Association of Professional Martial Artists (NAPMA) and a generous contributor to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Named the “World Leader in Self Defense” by NAPMA in 2007, Christopher Pizzo is recognized as the go-to man in the world of self-defense. In his leisure time, Chris Pizzo enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies, playing video games, and reading the works of authors such as Richard Marcinko, Dan Kennedy, and Steven Pressfield. Chris Pizzo currently lives in New Jersey.
