Appointed Co-chair of the Growth and Opportunities Study (GO) for Cincinnati by the city’s mayor, Chris Bortz used his expertise in finance and law to contribute to the group’s mission of developing comprehensive economic growth strategies. Through partnering with such groups as the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber and The Brookings Institution, GO Cincinnati planned strategies to create jobs, build the city's workforce, and stimulate economic advancement in under-developed neighborhoods. Chris Bortz also developed and led the Government Cooperation and Efficiency Project, which helps enable municipal governments evaluate improved methods of delivering essential services to citizens.

Chris Bortz balances his duties as a Cincinnati City Council member with his responsibilities as General Counsel and Special Projects Director for Towne Properties, his family's real estate management firm. In addition to overseeing projects and providing legal guidance in financial matters for Towne Properties, Chris Bortz serves on numerous municipal government organizations and committees. His civic work has primarily focused on job stimulation, quality of life, and infrastructure.

A former educator and mentor, Chris Bortz served as Dean of Faculty at Breakthrough Cincinnati. He continues his service to the school in his current position as a member of the Board of Directors. In addition, he functions as a member of the Board of Trustees for his alma mater, Cincinnati Country Day School. He also demonstrates his dedication to education by supporting the creation of scholarship programs for exemplary public school students.
