Charles Vaccarello - Florida
Charles Vaccarello, a Florida resident, has taught music education for more than 32 years. His teaching career began in 1975, when he accepted a position at Illinois’ Consolidated High School District 230 as an orchestra director for three different schools. In 1991, the district hired Charles Vaccarello as band director for one of these schools. Vaccarello retired in 2004 and moved to Welaka, Florida. As head of the music department, Charles Vaccarello oversaw the daily activities of operating a band and organized events that included competitions, concerts, and community performances. His marching and symphonic bands repeatedly received the state District I ranking, a high honor for high school band students. Charles Vaccarello's teaching experience also includes music instruction at Concordia University Chicago from 1975 to 1979 and Teaching Assistant at DePaul University from 1975 to 1977. Charles Vaccarello plays drums and vibraphone for North Florida fundraisers. During his time in Chicago, he performed in weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions throughout the Midwest. One of the highlights of his performance career is playing alongside jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Sinatra, and Eddie Fisher. Charles Vaccarello is a member of the nonprofit music education organization Percussive Arts Society and the International Association for Jazz Education, whose annual gathering remains the world's largest in the jazz community. He continues to give free music workshops at high schools across Florida and enjoys boating, bird hunting, fishing, and trap shooting in his leisure time. Charles Vaccarello graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in 1974 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and in 1977 from DePaul University with a Master's degree in Music Performance.
