Chai Ling

Chai Ling laid a foundation for lifelong activism as a student leader in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests. Born and raised in China, she began to show her support for domestic reform while still a student at Peking University. During her protests against the government, Chai Ling pursued a graduate degree in child psychology from Beijing Normal University. In 1990, in response to danger brought on by the protests, she was forced to flee China, ultimately earning a full scholarship to Princeton University. Following receipt of an honorary Master’s degree in Political Science from the Ivy League institution, Chai Ling went to work for Bain & Company as a consultant. In 1998, her completion of a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School led to her founding educational software and services company Jenzabar, Inc.

Launched in 1998 by Chai Ling, Jenzabar, originally known as Jenzabar.com, provided university administrators, professors, and students with an online place to come together and share information. The company expanded in 2000 and broadened its focus to include enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Today Jenzabar serves more than 700 campuses in the U.S. and internationally, providing a broad range of technology solutions. As President and Chief Operating Officer, Chai Ling maintains the company’s vision, overseeing the development of innovative software solutions and strategic consulting services. Jenzabar is unique among higher education technology providers in that it offers a broad range of fully integrated systems serving every office on campus, and supporting the entire student lifecycle, from candidates to graduates and beyond.

Chai Ling founded Jenzabar with the goal of helping colleges and universities offer better service to their students and other constituents. Under Chai Ling’s direction, Jenzabar supports delivers leading technology solutions for managing student administration and business office functions, enabling institutions to focus on helping students achieve the American Dream of achieving a brighter future through education.

Another project of Chai Ling’s, The Jenzabar Foundation, supports the humanitarian efforts of students by awarding educational grants to student organizations. In embracing those who undertake the most inspirational and influential initiatives, The Jenzabar Foundation seeks to ensure continued activism and education in the student population.
